Our name is Autolykus and we are a design studio and workshop that turns stuff into more stuff.

We are a company balancing on the edges of art and design. We have experience in a range of areas from lighting, furniture, interiors, architecture and landscape to food, automata, writing and sculpture. We have a host of designers and craftsmen and women that we collaborate with to ensure that each piece, each assemblage, each bit of stuff… is Autolykus.

All our creations are bespoke and hand made in London. If your desired light has already found a home, we can easily make another one that will be very similar and look forward to discussing the possibilities. Because of the nature of the materials Autolykus uses, some items will mature with age. We appreciate this process and believe it adds to our objects uniqueness.

Mōna - Lamp
This beautiful monster was a long time in the development, but now we understand the mechanism it can be applied to all sorts of structures. It’s base is a heavy piece of cast steel made by Griffin and Matlock. They were manufactures of scientific scales and measurers but we still don’t know exactly what this amazing piece was made for! It’s a mystery. We have now adapted the mechanism to operate an arm made from brass stair runner rods to raise and lower our moon. When the hand-carved alabaster handle is turned the moon rises to a full hight of 160cm. This is the first piece in our luna series - 160cm h (arm raised) x 90cm x 30cm d.

Over The Moon - Chandelier
This piece is a kinetic chandelier based on the nursery rhyme “Hey diddle diddle”, and an homage to our late co-founder. It contains a hand-carved cows head in English Alabaster, a cast milk bottle (resin and onyx powder) and a fin of book binding leather in the 2D form of a jump. Each of the three items is held in perfect balance by a series of brass rods, each of which also holds a moon for the cow to jump over. We wanted to crate a mobile chandelier. Previous pieces had led us down a lunar path and so someone jokingly said, “I know, how about The Cow that Jumped Over the Moon.” What started as a joke gradually became a discussion and finally a design - 180cm w x 50cm d x 70cm h.

Ships Log - Coffee Table
We are chasing away the gloom of the generic coffee table with this colour-full hand marbled creation. Marbling is mesmerising to do, to look at and the colour combinations are endless and each table top is absolutely unique. We discovered an old ships log for measuring a boats speed when dragged through the water so it seemed apropos to pair it with the technique of marbling a surface, pulling inks across water thickened with seaweed-44cm h x 60cm d.

Killer Konsole - Console Table
This deliciously patinated copper tank is all natural - we have only added adjustable legs, a top and cut a door into it with a tiny pink knob. These tanks were originally manufactured and used for spraying the grape vines in France. We have about fifteen in stock, all slightly different styles with vastly varying degrees of verdigris. The legs can be made to any size and have adjustable ends to accommodate uneven floors-110cm h x 37cm w x 20cm d.

UP No.1 - Coffee Table
The table is made from English alabaster chipping salvaged from previous carvings held in a pool of resin. The underside is left rough and craggy while the top is perfectly smooth. The top rests on three case rubber heads, gently being squashed onto a base of brushed brass, whilst an old pressure gauge secures the centre of the legs. These rubber heads give the table top a gentle and comedic wobble - 48cm h x 60cm d.

Bow Lamp - Desk Lamp
The original inspiration for this lamp was a violin bow sliding on the wooden wheel. Through prototyping its morphed into this elegant beauty. Tulip wood base with a ye old penny switch, brass stem and bow tensioned over a discarded wooden wheel with an out of tune piano wire. A copper spinning for a shade and an out of date weight to counter balance it.
